Take the mystery out of buying the right air conditioner.

Air Conditioners are available in a variety of styles and functions: Window air conditioners, wall air conditioners, portable air conditioners, ductless split air conditioners, PTAC air conditioners and spot coolers.
The first step in choosing the right air conditioner is determining the space in which it's going to be used. Is it an open space like a garage or warehouse, or a small enclosed space like an office or waiting room?

Let's start with a Room Air Conditioner. In order to figure out the correct BTU level, determine the total area of the room to be cooled.

A. For square and rectangular rooms, multiply the length of the area by its width.
B. For a triangular area, multiply the length of the area by the width and divide by 2

For example, a typical room of 15' x 15' equals 225 square feet, which requires 6,000 BTU's. This ratio should serve as a good guideline for rooms of any size.

Next, let's look at the various types of Air Conditioners:

Window Air Conditioners are made specifically for window installation. Used mainly for residential applications, our Window Air Conditioners range from 8,000 to 25,000 BTUS's in both 115 and 220 Voltage. Each window unit comes with a window kit for easy installation.

Wall Air Conditioners Thru-The-Wall units install into existing wall sleeves, and may be used in new construction or renovation applications. If used in new construction or renovation, a wall sleeve (sold separately) is necessary for proper installation. Our Wall Air Conditioners range from 8,000 to 25,000 BTUS's in both 115 and 220 Voltage. Each Wall unit comes with a wall trim kit for an easy installation.

Another type of Thru-The-Wall Air Conditioner is the Packaged Terminal Air Conditioner, or PTAC. PTACs are self-contained heating and air conditioning systems commonly found in hotels and apartment buildings, and are used to cool or heat a single living space or room. Designed to go through a wall, Global has a variety of sleeve and grille options for all your installation needs. BTU sizes range from 7,000 to 15,000 BTU.

If you don't want to worry about venting the hot air, try a Ductless Split Air Conditioner. These units do not need ductwork, saving valuable time and money. We offer cooling-only models in addition to year-round comfort models with cool and heat options. All Global Ductless Split Systems include the mounting bracket and hardware as well as a 25' line set kit for easy installation.

If you don't have an existing wall sleeve, if you don't need a split unit, or you want the option to move the unit at will, you can use a portable air conditioner. Portable Air Conditioners work great in applications that require mobility for your cooling or heating needs. It's important to note that, just like Window and Thru-The-Wall ACs, Portable Air Conditioners produce hot air exhaust which requires venting. All Portables include an exhaust window kit for easy installation. BTU sizes range from 8,000 to 14,000.

If you need direct cooling in a specific spot, Portable Spot Coolers and Remote Spot Coolers are ideal for on-location sites or other temporary cooling need applications, as the hot air emitted by the unit can easily be exhausted or displaced. This Global Spot Cooler produces 6,200 BTU at a 115 voltage. Please remember that this unit cannot function properly in an enclosed space.

For cooling data centers, our Industrial Portable Air Conditioners provide precision temperature and humidity control.

Most Air Conditioners are equipped with digital temperature display, auto-restart, timer mode and remote controls, but please double check the item description for these options. Removable washable filters allow easy cleaning. Look for the ENERGY STAR label on ACs to lower energy bills and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Certain models may qualify for Energy Star discounts through your local utility company. Always take precaution and make sure your Air Conditioner is UL Listed as well.
