The GlobalIndustrial.com search offers three different types of searches: Simple Search, Advanced Search and Can't Find It?.  The first two of these searches display the search results in some form. The Can't Find It search sends an email to one of our staff, who will research the query and communicate the result to you, usually by email.

• Simple Search provides you with a keyword search for products.   It is conveniently located at the top right of every page. You can search all products or limit your search to a selected product category.  The search looks for a match with product name, Global stock number, product description, manufacturer product number and manufacturer name.
  
  
• The Simple Search makes use of a thesaurus that is intended to link similar words.  An example might be "seat" or "seating" to find chairs.
  
  
• When the search finishes, either the Search Results page opens with a list of any products that match your keyword and, if selected, product category or, if the search criteria was too broad, a list of categories to choose from.to narrow the search.
  
  
• If you do not find what you are looking for, you can adjust your search criteria by removing the selected category (the system automatically repeats the search) or by switching to the Advanced Search.

1. Enter the Global stock number, manufacturer name, manufacturer product number or any part of the product description in the keyword field provided (Fig. 1).

2. Select a product category from the drop-down list, unless you want the search to include all products.

3. Click on the button.  The Search Results page opens in one of two formats, depending on how broad your search is: a list of categories to select from or a list of products.

4. If the search criteria was too broad, the page will ask you to "Please select a Category to find your item in." (Fig. 2) Click on the appropriate Category on the list.  This process may repeat to narrow the search to a sub-category, before the Product Sub-Category page opens with a list of products.

5. On the Search Results page format that lists products (Fig. 3), you can:
   
   

   1. Click on the product name under Product Details to see more information about the product.
      
      
   2. Click on the button to add the product to your shopping cart.
      
      
   3. Scroll to a page by clicking on a page number link or the [First] or [Last] link.
      
      
   4. Click on the Remove link to drop any search delimiter (usually used with the Advanced Search).
      
      
   5. Click on the Add Search Criteria link to open the Advanced Search page.

• Advanced Search is intended to provide additional search parameters that can be used to provide more accurate results. It is available by clicking on Advanced Search on the menu across the top of any page.  Advanced Search is also available from the Search Results page.

• Advanced Search searches through the products using your search criteria to limit the list it returns.  In addition to the Keyword input box, Advanced Search includes input boxes or drop down selection lists for Manufacturer, Category, Price Range (from...to...), Stock Number and Manufacture Part Number.

• When the search finishes, the Search Results page opens with a list of any products that matched your search criteria.  If you do not find what you are looking for, you can adjust your search criteria by removing delimiters (the system automatically repeats the search).

1. Click on the Advanced Search link next to the search fields in the upper right part of any page or click on the Add Search Criteria link on the Search Results page.  The Advanced Search page opens (Fig. 4).

2. Enter any combination of Keyword(s), (product) Category, Price Range, Manufacturer (name), Stock Number or Manufacturer Part Number in the fields provided.

3. Click the button.  The Search Results page opens (see above).

• Can't Find It? allows us the opportunity to help you locate the product you need by doing the looking for you. Use it whenever you cannot find what you are looking for using Simple and Advanced Search. All you have to do is provide as much information as possible to help us help you.

• The one required piece of information is your email address, so that we can reply to your request.

1. Click on the Can't Find It? link on the blue menu bar in the upper part of most pages (Fig. 5) or on the red Submit your request using our form link on the Search Results and other pages.

   The page with the Can't Find It? form opens. The form is divided into three parts:
   • Product Description
   • Product Attributes
   • Contact Information

2. Product Description: If possible, choose one of our product categories by clicking the radio button next to the first box with the drop-down list arrow in it, and then selecting either a specific category or All Products (the default) by clicking on your selection on the list. Open the list by clicking the down arrow in the box. If the item you want is not in one of the listed categories or you can't determine which one, click on the radio button by the second box and type in a brief product description in the box (required if you select this option).

3. Product Attributes: The boxes that appear depend on which product category you select under Product Description. Please fill in as many of the attribute boxes as you can to help us narrow the search for the product you want.

4. Contact Information: Please fill out as much information here as you can so we can contact you (your Email address is required at a minimum). Also, please use the Comments area to provide any additional information you can about the product you want.

5. When finished, click the button at the bottom of the form. This automatically sends us an email with the information you entered on the form. Someone will contact you by email or phone to let you know what we find.

1. Check your spelling.

2. Try using a similar term; "HD" instead of "Heavy Duty".

3. Avoid plurals.

4. Use partial words or word roots instead of the whole word; "record" instead of "recordable."

5. Browse by product category on the Left Navigation menu.

6. If you are unable to locate a product, but you are certain you spelled it properly, try using only part of the name (e.g. "Waste instead of Mobile Waste Container").
