The center shelf is fixed which makes sense however it is not on a 12" mark so it forces you to have taller and shorter shelves. We needed the bookcase for 12" binders so we were thinking we would have seven shelves but only ended up with 5 due to the fixed shelf. Other than that, it is a nice sturdy shelf. -

The bookcases are nice and easy to move once assembled. Assembly was a bit tricky as there are no written instructions so orientation of parts and the aseembly thereof through pictures can be confusing for the first one or two items. The locking tabs on some of the parts are easily bent and were out of position/damaged when the items arrived. -

The shelf is solid although a bit pricey. One issue I had was with sheet metal screws stripping particularly where the corner braces are located on the lower back side of the shelf. I don't think it will be an issue.
