The term double wide is exactly that. It's two scissor assemblies welded into one frame. The purpose of this is to offer wider tops that are not available with a single scissors. A standard rule is that the table top cannot be 2 feet wider than the base frame. An example of this is that a 48" wide base table can have up to a maximum top width of 72".
