Three flats on shank for a more positive grip in the drill chuck; flats reduce drill slippage under high loads. Ideal for portable drilling due to increased rigidity. Black and gold (Barber pole) oxide finish increases wear resistance and adds lubricity, improving chip flow. Use wherever maximum chuck capacity is 1/2".
