The extra wide grip surface when using the 6172XL-P kit not only adds grip area but allows a higher grip pressure. Grip surface material is high friction SBR Rubber Polymer (also known as RMA Grade II rubber). Plastic drums always deform when gripping. They will return to shape. The biggest concern with squeezing a poly drum too much is that the pressure inside the drum could pop the cap, or even the drum itself. Model 290F is NOT recommended for a plastic or fiber drum with cap or lid removed. If one of the caps or the lid is off the drum, and the drum has weight, the 290F is not recommended. In these circumstances the drum walls will collapse before it has enough grip.
